15 individuals arrested by FCT police for looting warehouse

The police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said they caught 15 people for damaging a warehouse in Abuja.

The warehouse belonged to the Federal Capital Development Authority. The police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, mentioned this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja.

She explained that among those arrested were two security guards who worked for the warehouse.

They were part of the group that damaged the warehouse in Tasha, Abuja. The police found 26 bags of maize, five motorcycles, and some damaged aluminum roofing sheets with the suspects.

Adeh said, “The FCT police knew about the sudden attack on the Agric Department Strategic food store in Tasha, Abuja, on March 3. This resulted in damage and looting of the warehouse. But now, things are back to normal, and the situation is under control.”

Additionally, the Agricultural and Rural Development Secretariat of the FCT Administration confirmed that residents looted its warehouse in Dei-Dei due to economic hardships.

Confirming the incident to The Newsmen, the spokesperson for the ARD Secretariat, Zakari Aliyu, said the Secretary had visited the warehouse earlier.

The residents had already taken everything from the store and vandalized the place by removing the roofs and windows.

Aliyu explained, “We went to the scene in the morning with the secretary and other officials. On Monday, the Secretary, along with the Minister of State, will visit again. You will get more information then. If you go there now, you’ll see nothing left. They even removed the roof and windows, besides taking the food items.”
