Awka – The Anambra State Police Command says it has intensified patrol and surveillance across the state especially within Onitsha and Obosi axis, where unknown gunmen on Sunday killed two police personnel and another civilian.

An online video that surfaced on Sunday, showed the gunmen numbering over eight, walking the streets and shooting sporadically.

Later videos showed the dead bodies of two policemen and a civilian.

TNC correspondent in Anambra gathered that two other cops were said to be injured during the shooting incident, which took place at a security post mounted by the police operatives, near the Ukaegbu /Ezeiweka road, Obosi.

The incident was said to have happened around 9 am on Sunday.

The operational vehicle of the cops was also set ablaze.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, confirmed the incident, but said only one police operative lost his life in the incident.

Ikenga noted that the command has intensified patrol and surveillance across the state in response to the incident, aimed at identifying and arresting the perpetrators of the attack on Police patrol vehicle along Ezeiweka road, Awada.

“Preliminary investigation reveals that at about 9:30hrs on 19/09/2021, the attackers drove in Sienna vehicle, ash in color and started shooting at the patrol vehicle along ukegbu junction, ezeiweka road.

“Unfortunately, during the exchange of gunfire, one police inspector paid the supreme price and some sustain gunshot injuries.
