11,000 graduate from BUK, 180 achieve first-class honors

Bayero University Kano (BUK) in Kano shared that they’re getting ready to celebrate their 38th staggered convocation where about 11,000 students will officially graduate.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sagir Abbas, mentioned this during a press conference held before the convocation.

Prof. Abbas pointed out that among the graduating students, there are 180 who achieved first-class honors in their Bachelor’s degrees, 3,770 in Masters Degrees, and 370 earning their PhDs.

He emphasized that the staggered convocation approach is aimed at ensuring that each student feels the significance of their graduation.

Furthermore, special recognition will be given to Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, and the President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwunmi Adeshina, who will receive honorary doctorate degrees for their support to the university.

Additionally, the university has invited Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, to deliver the graduation lecture.

His talk will focus on “The Role of Private Sector in Building a Sustainable Economy in Nigeria.”

Prof. Abbas also highlighted a significant achievement in the E-Motive at the Centre of Excellence, Africa Centre of Excellence – Population and Policies (ACE-PAP). This initiative has helped save 60% of pregnant women who delivered.

“We also recorded a breakthrough in the E-Motive at the Centre of Excellence, Africa Centre of Excellence Population and Policies, ACE-PAP. It saved 60 per cent of pregnant women that delivered.”

Moreover, the university is planning to launch Open and Distance Learning programs starting in 2025. There are also ongoing efforts to advance innovative scientific research across various sectors.

“We have plans to start Open and Distance learning from the beginning of next year, 2025, and the university is making serious inroads in other innovative scientific research sectors”, he said.
