No fewer than 11 people have been killed following a suspected bandit attack on several communities in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The attack, which reportedly occurred on Friday night, targeted the communities of Turtsawa, Mazau, and Majema. According to security analyst Bakatsine, the attackers are believed to be bandits loyal to notorious kingpin Bello Turji.
Several other residents sustained serious injuries during the assault and are currently receiving treatment at undisclosed medical facilities.
In a post shared on X on Friday night, Bakatsine said the gunmen stormed the affected communities and opened attacks on residents, leaving multiple casualties.
“Last night, 11 people were killed in attacks on communities between Turtsawa, Mazau and Majema in Sabon Birni LGA of Sokoto State. The attackers are believed to be bandits loyal to the notorious bandit leader Bello Turji. Several others sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment,” he wrote.
Bakatsine extended condolences to the families of the victims and called for decisive action by authorities to end the persistent violence affecting communities in the area.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies and the Sokoto State Government had not issued an official statement on the incident.
