10 Killed, 7 Injured as Bomb Explosion Hits Passenger Vehicle in Zamfara

About 10 people have been confirmed dead while seven others sustained injuries following an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion along the Bagega–Anka road in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Monday when a commercial Volkswagen Golf 3 Wagon carrying passengers from Bagega to Anka reportedly struck an explosive device allegedly planted by suspected robbers operating in the area.

The spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar, initially confirmed one death and seven injuries, stating that specialized tactical teams were deployed to the scene for assessment and rescue operations.

However, further search and recovery efforts led to the discovery of nine additional bodies, bringing the death toll to 10. The explosion occurred between Tungar Kudaku and Bagega communities, prompting an immediate security response.

The recovered bodies were evacuated to a hospital for autopsy and other necessary procedures before being released to their families for burial according to Islamic rites.

Police authorities said security has been reinforced along the Anka–Bagega corridor, with intensified patrols aimed at preventing further attacks and ensuring the safety of road users.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or objects to security agencies, while investigations into the incident continue.
