10 Escape Death as Three-Storey Building Crashes Down in Lagos

Ten people have been rescued alive from the rubble of a three-storey building that collapsed on Thursday in the Alakija area of Lagos State.

The News Chronicle reports that victims, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, were promptly evacuated and handed over to medical personnel for treatment.

Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, said the collapsed structure was a residential building located on Old Ojo Road, near Alakija Bus Stop, off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Satellite Town.

According to Adeseye, the building was occupied by several residents when it gave way.

“The incident involves the collapse of a storey building, an existing residential structure occupied by multiple residents at the time of the collapse.

“As of the time of this report, 10 persons have been rescued alive with varying degrees of injuries and have been handed over to medical personnel for necessary treatment,” she said.

Emergency responders at the scene include the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Navy, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and the Nigerian Red Cross Society.

Rescue operations were ongoing as authorities worked to ascertain whether more victims remained trapped beneath the debris.
