Victor Osimhen insists the promise of first team football at Wolfsburg meant he had no option but to reject interest from Arsenal.

The highly-rated Nigeria Under-23 international had been expected to follow Kelechi Nwakali, who joined the Gunners in the summer before being loaned out to MVV Maastricht, to north London before a late change of heart.

Osimhen shot to prominence after scoring 10 goals at the Under-17 World Cup two years ago and although he is yet to make his senior debut for Wolfsburg, he is confident he has made the right career choice.

‘There were many clubs that were interested in me. But I chose Wolfsburg because I think that my development opportunities are highest here,’ he said.

‘If I had gone to Arsenal, for example, I might not have found the way to the first team so quickly.’
