Lere Olayinka, Special Assistant to the Governor of Ekiti state on Public Communications and New Media, Ayodele Fayose has said that the governor’s security aides have been withdrawn, this is coming on the heels of the brutality allegedly dealt on him by the Police.

This he made known on his official twitter handle.

Police brutality against some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Ayodele Fayose has been strongly condemned by the Democracy Vanguard, through its National Coordinator, Adeola Soetan.

The group in a statement averred that political parties still have till Thursday to campaign for votes peacefully, and they should be accorded that right and the right of Nigerians to freely assemble.

“There has been peace in the state, security operatives should not be overzealous to trigger any avoidable tension and anarchy in order not to play into the hands of desperate politicians across board who want to win elections by all means necessary.

“They should be neutral, watchful, alert and  friendly as they have been doing in some communities we visited.

“Governor Fayose should however be  reminded that no matter his status, self or party’s interest, he is Not the candidate of his party, but Prof. Eleka, so his overbearing influence using official paraphernalia of his office  is a  potential threat to peace. While not denying him of his right to campaign for his choice candidate, but he must be discerning enough to separate his office as a sitting governor and a partisan party campaigner.

“At the same time, we condemn any attempt or resort to the use of  insidious ‘federal might’  – a show of naked force. This will be a reminder of the misuse of federal power to threaten democracy in 2014. A nation does not continuously live in her rotten past that we all condemned, but progresses forward and corrects the evils of the past to join the civilised world in conducting credible elections.

“All parties and candidates should let the electorate decide their fate democratically and peacefully without intimidation since INEC has promised to conduct a free , fair and credible election.

“Voters Might expressed through their thumbs is the only legitimate Might recognised in a democracy, and ultimately it is ‘mighter’ than all other ‘mights”, be it federal, state or village might. July 14 is not the end of the world

“Voters be Vigilant, all these politicians are cordial friends with coordinate interests, they will cross carpet after the election and embrace themselves to share the booty of office together., so don’t be used”, Soetan  said.

It will be recalled that the Governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose had in the early hours of Wednesday raised alarm, over the blockade by military operatives at the government house in Ado Ekiti, after which he alleged that he was manhandled by security operatives.

The governor who emerged at the pavilion where the PDP rally was scheduled to take off from with a neck brace, told journalists amidst tears that he was slapped, kicked and shot at by the policemen and said the Inspector General of Police should be held responsible if anything happened to him.

“My people, the Lord will fight this battle. The COMPOL MOPOL of Nigeria Police and the AIG ordered that the governor should be killed. I was slapped by a policeman and shot at.

“But I want you to be of great courage. This battle must be won. This is an army of occupation. I want you to stand and remain standing.

“I hope they will not cause 1983 crisis. I call on the international community, Ekiti is under siege. How can I be the governor of the stage and be treated this way? I will go back to the hospital and remain there for a while.

“Stand with Eleka. I am having a lot of pain and I decide to bear this pain because of you, I am pleading with the international community, Nigeria is in trouble. They have arrested so many teachers, many okada riders… Come and save Ekiti, this is our hour of tribulation”, Fayose said.

However, the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Operations, Habilal Joshak, was reported to have said that; “We are not here to usurp the authority of Governor Fayose. We are not here to rubbish him because he represents the people.

“But we are not going to allow any unauthorized rally that can trigger violence in the state. You can see that the state is tensed up. As law enforcement agent, we must be proactive and take actions that can prevent crisis rather than trying to quell it after it might have broken out”.
